Giro d'Italia 2025: Nova Gorica/Gorizia

This year’s Giro d’Italia cycling caravan will once again visit the Goriška region, specifically Nova Gorica and the Brda hills. The finish line of Stage 14 will be on 24 May 2025, at Europe Square (Trg Evrope), located between the twin cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia. This symbolic location, representing the connection between the two cities and between Slovenia and Italy, will also be a central venue for this year's European Capital of Culture programme.

Stage 14 will start in Treviso and lead the riders across the Friulian plain to Cormons. They will then cross the border into Slovenia at Plešivo and ride through Brda, passing through Medana, Dobrovo, Šmartno, Kojsko, and Hum. The race will briefly return to Italy and then re-enter Nova Gorica via San Floriano del Collio, where the riders will complete two final laps through the city. With the stage concluding near Europe Square during the year of Nova Gorica’s prestigious title of European Capital of Culture, and with top Slovenian cyclists participating—including Primož Roglič, Matevž Govekar, and Jan Tratnik—this event is sure to attract a large crowd of cycling enthusiasts to the region.

On Friday, 23 May 2025, a theatre production titled 1976 by internationally acclaimed director Tomi Janežič will be staged at the Nova Gorica stadium as part of the ECoC programme. All in all, an exciting sports and cultural weekend lies ahead.

The race in Nova Gorica, alongside the always-picturesque Brda hills, promises to be particularly exciting, as the cyclists will also ride through urban streets—places where residents never imagined the Giro would pass, right between apartment towers. This Saturday stage is expected to be a true sporting spectacle. And the day won’t end with the race: in the evening, a free concert by the well-known Italian band The Kolors will take place in Nova Gorica city centre.

Parking and road closures 

The centre of Nova Gorica, including all streets on the race route, will be completely closed to traffic between 2:00 and 6:30 p.m.!

Kidričeva Street will be closed from the entrance to Bevk Park to OTP Bank from Friday, 23 May at 12:00 until Sunday, 25 May at 12:00 a.m.
Kolodvorska Path will be closed from Friday, 23 May at 8:00 p.m. until Sunday, 25 May at 08:00 a.m.
Bazoviška Street will be closed from Friday, 23 May at 10:00 p.m. until Sunday, 25 May at 08:00 a.m.

Car parks accessible during the day:

Roadside parking along the route will not be available!

Arrival of Giro-E

Cyclists taking part in the Giro-E will ride the same route through Nova Gorica as the Giro d’Italia riders later in the day.
They are expected to arrive via the Rožna Dolina border crossing at approximately 2:45 p.m.
